This program is designed for children who are curious about camping and are excited to learn the skills to have a fun camping experience! This week-long, camping-focused program begins by introducing campers to all the different skills needed to take a camping trip. The activities of the week lead up to a Thursday, daytime camp-out where the campers set-up an actual camp site!
Camp days are divided into five activity periods, plus lunchtime. The three morning activity periods are spent on wilderness survival skills such as tent pitching, plant identification, fishing, fire building, knot tying, and orienteering. For lunch, Basecampers hike to a lunch location to continue to explore the NEOC trails and practice different shelter builds. The last period of the day is spent doing classic NEOC activities like canoeing and archery, and occasionally joining the rest of the NEOC camp community for the sign-up periods.
Please know that late drop-offs and early pick-ups are strongly discouraged for campers in Basecampers on their camp-out day.
