Our K-5th Grades Program

Days at NEOC, for Elementary-aged campers, are filled with exploration, projects, multiple choice periods based on personal interests, and much, much more. A camp culture of inclusion and appreciation allows for friendships to blossom and for campers to mentor one another. Campers enjoy the immersion that is typical of an overnight camp experience, with the joy of sharing camp stories at home with their family each night.

As Elementary-age campers grow at NEOC, they are encouraged to wonder about, investigate, and build their understanding of nature.

No matter how many weeks an Elementary-age camper chooses to spend at NEOC, they leave with greater confidence in themself and new ideas about how to enjoy and preserve the natural world around them!

Age Groups

Campers spend a majority of their day with their group, made up of campers close in age to one another:

  • K - 1st = Ducklings. Their home base is called a nest
  • 2nd - 3rd = Flying Squirrels. Their home base is a snag (standing, dead tree)
  • 4th - 5th = River Otters. Their home base is a den.

Activities

Camp days are divided into six activity periods, plus lunchtime. Mondays are filled with group bonding games, campus exploration, and pre-set activities. Tuesday through Friday, a camper's day is a combination of pre-set activities that are largely nature based and the elective activities they selected the afternoon prior with their counselors.

Camp activities include:

  • Archery (2nd+ graders)
  • Arts and crafts
  • Botany
  • Canoeing (2nd+ graders)
  • Conservation
  • Cooking
  • Dance
  • Field games
  • Field sports
  • Gardening
  • Hiking
  • Journaling
  • Meditation
  • Music
  • Orienteering
  • Outdoor survival skills
  • Science
  • Theater
  • Water games
  • Yoga
  • Zoology

Structure of a Week

Each week begins with the whole camp gathering for introductions to the counselors and a reveal of the week's theme. Then, age-divided groups head-out to create their headquarters for the week, set group expectations, and get to know one another.

Each day ends with group time where campers have an opportunity to reflect on their day and prioritize the elective activities offered the next day.

Every Thursday is a theme day, with a new theme each week! Some Thursdays will offer the opportunity to dress thematically. Every Thursday will include twists on familiar activities and special, one-time activities or games.

Camp ends each week with a camp-wide campfire that includes singing, skits, and more!

Canoeing was a big hit! It was great to see the photos. Thank you to the team, and especially my son's counselor, for all the dedication to helping him enjoy his experience." Canoeing was a big hit!
